International Yoga Day Programme
The International Yoga Day Programme was organized to promote awareness about the importance of yoga in maintaining physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The programme was conducted on 21st June 2025 at Thanjavur Arunachalam Chettiyar School, Karaikudi, as part of a community health and wellness initiative supported by the Times Health Care Foundation & Charitable Trust.
The event aimed to encourage students and staff to adopt yoga as a regular practice and to understand its role in leading a healthy and disciplined lifestyle. The programme highlighted yoga’s cultural significance as an ancient Indian tradition with global recognition.
Project Objectives
The programme was organized with the following objectives:
To create awareness about the benefits of yoga for physical, mental, and emotional health among students and staff.
To encourage the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits through regular yoga practice.
To introduce students to basic yoga asanas, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques.
To promote mindfulness, discipline, and concentration among students.
To highlight the cultural and scientific value of yoga as a holistic wellness practice.
The programme was conducted with active participation from students, teachers, and staff. The event began with a welcome address, followed by the formal inauguration of the programme through the lighting of the ceremonial lamp.
Dr. Kumaresan, Chairman of Kottaiyur Panchayat, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of yoga in improving physical fitness, mental clarity, and emotional balance, particularly among students. Yoga Master Mr. Premkumar delivered an informative session on the origin and purpose of yoga and conducted live demonstrations of various yoga asanas and breathing techniques. Participants actively engaged in the yoga session, practicing the asanas and techniques demonstrated. The programme also included a cultural presentation by students based on the theme of yoga, adding educational and cultural value to the event.
