MOBILE ADDICTION Awareness Programme

In today’s digital age, mobile phones have become an integral part of daily life, offering ease of communication, access to information, and entertainment. However, excessive mobile phone usage—especially among children—has emerged as a serious concern. Children now spend a significant amount of time on screens, often at the cost of their physical health, emotional well-being, social interaction, and academic performance. Studies indicate that children aged 8–15 years spend an average of 5 to 7 hours per day on mobile devices. This overexposure has been linked to sleep disturbances, reduced concentration, lack of physical activity, poor social skills, anxiety, and depression.

Project Objectives

To educate children about the psychological, physical, and social effects of excessive mobile phone usage.
• To encourage self-regulation and responsible mobile usage from an early age.
• To emotionally engage students through a drama performance depicting real-life consequences of mobile addiction.
• To help parents and teachers identify early signs of mobile overuse and guide children towards healthier habits.
• To promote alternative activities such as outdoor play, reading, creative hobbies, and face-to-face interaction.
• To foster digital discipline through awareness programmes, discussions, and school-based initiatives.

The Mobile Addiction Awareness Programme was conducted on Monday, 18th August 2025, at Karthikeyan Government Aided Elementary School, organized by the Times Health Care Foundation & Charitable Trust, with coordination by Ms. Gayathri and Ms. Mouniya. The programme commenced with a warm welcome to students, teachers, and invited guests.

The Chief Guest, a respected psychiatrist and counsellor from EMME Psychiatry, addressed the gathering and shared insights on child mental health and the dangers of excessive screen time. This was followed by a special address by the Headmistress, Ms. Swetha Jeevanantham, who emphasized the importance of early awareness about mobile addiction among children.
